Minor Alterations

I'm starting to get good at knowing if I'll win or lose by turn 3 based on what I have on the table and in my hand. I like this deck because really, only on type can beat me. Any blue control/counter. If I can make it to turn 3 without being coutered and with all my cards stating on the table, chance are I'll win.

I'm still making adjustments though. I'm removing my two Groundbreak Slivers (5/5 withtrample at the cost of 7 mana) because by the time I can actually play them, I'm usually doing 4 other things. In my 30+ games with them, not once have I yet to actually play them. In their place I may add some enchantments. Ethereal Armor is nice for the 1W mana cost and it never hurts to have another Pacifism to shut down those damned Boros decks.

Extort was a nice card that I put in that has saved my life quite a few times, especially in games where the life score is super close like 3-2.

My entire deck would be made complete with ine more card...

Slowly Building

So, while I wait to finish my deck IRL, my MTG:O deck has been slowly changing. I've removed a lot of the green creatures (a lot of 2/2/ and 3/3 cards that had no other power) and replaced them with enchantments. I'm seriously considering buying 2 Archangel's of Thune (which together will run me about $32...) because that seems to be all I need now to make this deck play well. The people I'm losing to at this point are just outdecking me.

By far, my favorite card is Frontline Medic. I'll get some of my wussy cards on the table and whip this guy out. This allows me to survive the next 2-3 turns to either spawn massive amounts of tokens are just buff them to the point where it's a one hit kill.

MTG: Online

I've begun playing MTG online. It's cool that I could basically play with anyone at anytime. Also, from what I've noticed, buying the cards as singles is a lot cheaper than the real life paper cards, which means I can test out more card combos before committing to buying them and wasting a deck on FNM.

While my IRL deck looks to be utilizing Archangel of Thune (I somehow got 2 of them) and her army of Lifelinked soldiers to just overwhelm my opponents. I'm not shelling out $16 for a virtual Archangel.

My MTGO deck is a white/green deck. I heal myself and basically get so many creatures out there that I make you "rage-concede".

For those of you who don't know, there are 4 tiers of play on MTGO. "Just Starting Out", "Just For Fun", "Getting Serious" and "Competition Practice".

I'm absolutely facerolling the first category, but I'm getting curbstomped in the second.

Also, the more I play my White/Green deck, the more I want to play a White/Red one...

The Two Decks: A Blast From The Past

Back in 2007, I bought two starter decks. It was a complete impulse buy, and to this day, I'm not sure why I did it because I never played in college. My last real magic game was in 2002 or 2003.

The two decks are 40 card starters from tenth edition. All of them are there and the cards themselves look like they're in mint condition.

The first deck is "Molimo's Might". It looks like a standard green overgrowth deck that relys on generating a huge mana pool to get your big cards out mid-late game.

The second deck is called Cho-Manno's resolve. This looks like a white counter deck that tries to nuetralize opponent actions.

I intend to solitaire the decks against eachother just to get back in the habit of spotting card combos and refamiliarizing myself with the game.

Making Up For Lost Time

My father bought me my first TCG starter deck. I was in 4th grade, it was a year before he passed, and we walked into this dingy comic book store in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. I remember seeing all the cards and booster packs behind a pane of glass and I felt like I was in a museum, about to pick out an artifact. He spoke to the man behind the counter for a while and he asked him the price for a Pokemon Starter deck. I clearly remember the man saying, "you don't want to know."

I was devestated as my father took me home, but I contented myself by playing Pokemon blue on my gameboy.

The next day, my father came home from work and followed his normal routine. My mother served him dinner, he ate at the table while talking to her as she cleaned the kitchen, and then he leafed through the "Daily News".

I came into the kitchen to say hi to him and he picked up a small, black plastic bag from next to him and handed it to me, nonchalantly. I took it and looked inside.

He had bought me a Blastoise starter deck.

I played Pokemon for the next 3 years, before then merging towards the Dragon Ball Z card game which I played wirh my little brother and my friend Joey. In 8th grade, when kids started choosing between Yugi-oh and Magic, I first played Yugi-oh, but it seemed too gimmicky to me and I finally started playing magic with the asians at my school.

I used my saved up allowance for 3 starter decks and played the hell out of them. My allowance at the time was small and I couldn't afford buying cards, and of course, my mother refused to sink anything into my hobby, already considering it a waste of money.

In high school, I picked up the habit of cigarette smoking and all my spare funds went towards that (I lived in NYC and would actually choose buying a pack rather than having dinner) and I kind of stopped playing because I became semi-cool and playing magic wasn't "cool".

In 07, while I was in college, I bought two starter decks on a whim and soon forgot about them.

Fast forward to now. I have disposable income, a decent job, a partner with whom I enjoy quiet nights at home with, no kids, no crazy debt (yet), etc. My extra money goes towards WoW, my gym membership and supplements.

Remember those two starter decks I bought and forgot about? I found them a few days ago.

I have decided to get back into magic this block. With core set 2014 being only recently released and the Theros block coming up, now is the perfect time for me to return and do somethig that has been my dream since I was in 8th grade...

Place in a Magic The Gathering tournament.

This blog is my story.
